NEVER MIND – Grindr is useless… My “discreet” profile ad was deleted. All I said was I was “uninhibited top” looking for a no-strings fuck. Looking at their guidelines 1) “Explicit sexual words and slang are expressly prohibited”, and 2) “Mention of unsafe sex is expressly prohibited”. I can sorta understand #1 given that they have to pass Apple’s “family friendly” policies for the app store. But #2 is just gratuitous nonsense since #1 more than covers #2…

So bottom line – forget about Grindr… Given Apple’s policies I’m not sure there ever will be a decent iPhone app for anonymous sex. There needs to be one, but Apple has a draconian control over what goes on the iPhone…

Came across an iPhone app today that’s worth mentioning – Grindr. Bascially it lets you see who’s near you. While it’s meant to be more of a “social networking” sorta thing, there’s no reason it can’t be used for anonymous hookups. It’s easy enough to post that you’re looking to seed hole or looking for loads.

I’ve been wanting something like this to come along so when I’m downtown I can see what holes are nearby who will take my load. You literally could hookup with someone 5 minutes after practically zero discussion. “Wanna load?”, “Sure – here’s my address…” Of course most of the guys on there aren’t hardcore barebackers, but that’s what the favs button is for

I’ve only been playing with it for like 20 minutes. Anyone have more experience with it? Are there any downsides to using it? It doesn’t appear to give away your cell number or anything…

Anyway, when I’m downtown and up for hooking up I’ll be using it. When I’m home (uptown) I’ll be keeping the profile more discreet…

Oh – one other thing – don’t get banned from using it… Keep the photos clean – no nudity (frontal or rear) is allowed… Face and chest shots are OK…

If you’re not from NYC you may not have heard of him, but Rev. Al Sharpton is a bit of a fixture around here – he’s even run for mayor (and I voted for him). The man says things that are so true and says them with a frankness that’s wonderfully refreshing. Here’s the latest from him…

It amazes me when I looked at California and saw churches that had nothing to say about police brutality, nothing to say when a young black boy was shot while he was wearing police handcuffs, nothing to say when the they overturned affirmative action, nothing to say when people were being delegated into poverty, yet they were organizing and mobilizing to stop consenting adults from choosing their life partners. There is something immoral and sick about using all of that power to not end brutality and poverty, but to break into people’s bedrooms and claim that God sent you.

Can we clone him? Maybe make a few white versions of him and put them in places like Kansas so his message reaches a broader audience?

Needless to say guys like him are another reason why I love New York. Find me another place where a prominent black minister is saying things like that… And then there’s our blind, black governor who is trying his hardest to get us gay marriage, and the new (black) state senate majority leader who decided he’d rather lose his position than compromise his principles on things like his support for gay marriage (3 anti-gay Democratic senators were threatening to caucus with the Republicans if they didn’t get a vote on gay marriage taken off the table – in the end they lost and he won but the point is he wouldn’t use our civil rights as a bargaining chip for him to get a great deal or power)…

I really can’t imagine living anywhere but NYC…

You may be asking, who isn’t in love with François Sagat – I mean the guy is a fucking hot porn star? But there’s a creativity about him that I absolutely love. IMHO, the the type of creativity that was wiped out during the AIDS crisis when the gay community lost a lot of it’s best creative talent.

I mean before the AIDS crisis you had the start of organizations like The Radical Faeries and The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence – both were founded in 1979 at the zenith of creative gay culture before AIDS made gay men want to be more “normal” and “healthy”. Maybe it’s just that I’m in New York which has been gentrified and commercialized in a massive way since I moved here 18 years ago (you can’t find an unsafe place in Manhattan anymore). Berlin used to be the hotspot of creativity, but what cities are creative these days?

I’m actually sort of surprised François Sagat does condom porn – when I look at his blog and his YouTube channel he seems so free, uninhibited and creative. It surprises me he’s not uninhbited sexually as well. Who knows, maybe he is off camera?

So how do we bring back creativity of the 1970s? I mean gay men these days should be known for more than apartment makeovers and transforming straight guys into metrosexuals… Where’s the really “out there” sorta creativity? God bless all the fags who want design-perfect homes in the suburbs and 2.5 kids, but if that’s all we have, we’ve lost something major as a community. When the AIDS crisis was in full swing we could say it was killing off the creative guys, but we can’t say that anymore…
